This information from June 2020 has been republished to our updated site.
On June 4th, 2020, the MLK Labor Council’s Executive Board passed a resolution affirming their commitment to an anti-racist Labor movement and calling on the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild to address issues of systemic racism and accountability within the Seattle Police Department.
IATSE Local 15 stands in solidarity with this resolution and its demands.
IATSE Local 15 acknowledges its own history of participation in systemic racism and discrimination, and the harm this has caused Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA, and women in our industry. We affirm a commitment to more actively address these issues to become a more welcoming and affirming Union. IATSE Local 15 will immediately form a Diversity Committee for our workers, to be open to all self-identified members of these communities and allies who are willing to listen and follow their lead. This committee will make recommendations to the Executive Board on reducing barriers to entry into our industry and steps we can take to actively recruit within these groups.
You can read the fill resolution on the MLK Labor Council’s website.
